I've been kind of struggling with balancing rendering, lighting, and showing the liveliness of a drawing. In this piece in particular I looked back at the lines and really missed the certain something the drawing lost after rendering. So I thought a bit about how some people show lighting without heavy shadow, and tried editing. Sometimes heavy rendering really isn't the answer. I'm going to try to continue down this route and see how it goes, hopefully it'll yield good results with new pieces! I certainly like this one much better now.

I've got a bunch of commissioned works to post as well. SOON!

I love the lighting in this piece. It is so much warmer than the origional. I adore Jamie and have missed him. I look forward to seeing more updates in your gallery. Keep up the amazing work.

I think you've seriously succeeded. The colours themselves are well chosen and the highlights are in just the right places. The shading and texture don't detract from any part of the picture and I'm just mesmerized by the look of his hair and cheekbones

I love the subtle glow over everything. It has a certain warmth that the original seemed to lack. I feel like I can see him better, now, and almost know him better, too, as though the illumination has "enlightened" me, if you will. Pardon the pun, lol. :) Great job!

Thanks so much!!! 8D I definitely get what you mean, it seems like a lot of his character was muddled with the heavy rendering and loss of the lines. Now that they're back it shows a lot more :D

Sure! Yes, I agree. The line quality is much better when it is visible. :)
